The Coronavirus disease, also known as COVID-19, is an infectious disease that primarily spreads through droplets of saliva discharge. Given the severity of COVID-19’s impact globally, the quality of its consequences to the daily lives of all Filipinos are very evident. Everyone is contending with the pandemic and its effects from different places in various ways. In addition to that, recently, the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) placed the National Capital Region (NCR) under Alert level 2; this means that children accompanied with their guardian are now allowed to enter public establishments such as malls and restaurants, regardless of comorbidities or vaccine status.
This is a problem because children below 11 years old are still at high risk and susceptible of contracting the virus, as there is no available vaccine for their age group yet. There are still ways to prevent getting infected, such as social distancing, washing hands frequently, and wearing a mask; however, where and when one may get infected will forever be unknown. Our goal is to protect and maintain the well-being of all children in the Philippines against COVID-19. We hope to spread awareness regarding the dangers of allowing young children to enter crowded public spaces to prevent the spread of the virus to the youth of our country.
A lot of young precious lives have had covid, and the numbers are still increasing. A pediatrician advised the parents to not expose their children to places like the malls or anywhere populous or crowded.
A possible solution to this is the opening of parks, just like what the Mayor of Manila did, so that the young kids could have a place of entertainment that is not crowded with people. It is an open-air place that even if it could not completely rid the virus, it could help from worsening its spread any further while also allowing children to have more fun memories of their youth which is good for their mental and emotional health because physical health is not the only thing that must remain healthy.
